Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the world's largest annual celebrations of motorsport, engineering and automotive culture, attracting more than 220,000 visitors over four days.

Located at the heart of FOS, Future Lab presents the future of health, robotics, AI, quantum computing, space travel, underwater habitation and leading-edge digital innovation.

Co-created by Catapult, Future Lab has created an entirely new category of exhibitor, sponsors, media and audience. It is a hands-on, fully immersive environment and the Festival's dedicated home for breakthrough technology. More than 140 organisations have exhibited since Future Lab launched in 2017, including science and technology leaders like MIT, NASA, Samsung, Airbus and Siemens, as well as pioneering start-ups.

Catapult worked with each exhibitor to design and build bespoke experiences that make their complex technologies engaging, interactive and accessible. Future Labs is designed around four themes:

  • New Frontiers: Deep space and deep ocean explored through activations created with NASA, the European Space Agency, Dark Star Labs, Deep and Sunbird.

  • Unseen Worlds: The power of computers to reveal hidden mysteries are revealed with The Factum Foundation, National Quantum Computing Centre and Quantum Solutions.

  • Intelligent Systems: The evolution of AI and robotics on show with Mirokaï and OLO Robotics

  • Extending Reality: Extending reality with the wonders of VR with Touchlabs, Emotiv and Sony XYN.

A thousand local school children attended this year’s FOS FutureLab on Thursday July 9th, guided by Goodwood’s first official STEM ambassador, Matt Green, while British astronaut, Sir Tim Peake, packed out the Randox Lounge, with his expansive knowledge of space exploration and technical innovation, providing a captivating perspective.

Jonathan Bates, Creative Director at Catapult, says: “Future Lab has created an entirely new category of exhibitor at Goodwood, and it continues to advance. What began as an expo of the future of automotive technology, has evolved into a place where industry leaders, researchers, entrepreneurs and the public can come together to explore the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
